Ìrántí Registry · Privacy & Data

Privacy Policy

Every memory deserves care. Learn how Ìrántí may collect, use, and protect information connected to memorial records, family submissions, and burial-location details.

1. About this policy

Ìrántí Registry (“Ìrántí”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) is a project intended to help people search for and preserve information about deceased loved ones and burial records in Nigeria. We recognise that memorial information can be deeply personal and that burial-location details may need additional care.

2. Information we may collect

Depending on which features are available and how you use them, we may collect:

  • Memorial details: a deceased person’s name, dates, biographical details, photographs, state or community, and other information submitted for a memorial.
  • Submitter details: your name, contact information, relationship to the deceased, and communications with us.
  • Verification documents: copies or details of documents supplied to support a submission, such as a death certificate or identification document, where required by the verification process.
  • Requests and correspondence: access requests, correction or removal requests, reports, and related communications.
  • Technical information: limited device, browser, log, or usage information if the live service uses hosting logs, analytics, cookies, or similar technologies.

3. How we use information

Information may be used to operate and improve the registry, including to:

  • create, review, verify, maintain, and display memorial records;
  • respond to enquiries and communicate with submitters or families;
  • review requests to access restricted burial information;
  • investigate suspected fraud, misuse, inaccurate submissions, or security incidents;
  • maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the service; and
  • meet applicable legal obligations or respond to lawful requests.

We will not describe a purpose here unless it reflects an actual use of information.

4. Verification documents

To reduce inaccurate or fraudulent memorial submissions, Ìrántí may ask submitters to provide supporting documents, which may include a death certificate and a valid identification document. The final policy must state who can review these documents, where they are stored, who can access them, and how long they are retained.

5. When information may be shared

Depending on the service’s real operations, information may be shared:

  • with a submitter or authorised family representative to manage a memorial or request;
  • with service providers who host or support the registry, where needed to provide the service;
  • with an institution requesting death verification, only under a defined process and where the required family consent or other lawful basis has been confirmed;
  • where disclosure is required by applicable law or a valid legal process; or
  • to address fraud, abuse, safety, or security concerns where permitted by law.

We do not intend to sell personal information. The final policy should name important service-provider categories and explain any international data transfers if they occur.

6. How information is protected

We intend to handle memorial and verification information with care and to apply appropriate safeguards. The specific safeguards must be confirmed before publication—for example, access controls, secure transmission, restricted administrative access, backups, and monitoring, where these are actually in place.

No website or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure. If an incident affects information, we will respond in accordance with applicable requirements and the procedures adopted for the live service.
