Ìrántí Registry · Privacy & Data
Terms of Use
A shared responsibility to remember. These terms set out the respectful, lawful use expected of people who search the registry or submit memorial information.
1. Accepting these terms
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) apply to your access to and use of Ìrántí Registry (“Ìrántí”, “we”, “us”, or “our”). By using the website, searching records, or submitting information, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
2. What Ìrántí does
Ìrántí is being developed as a digital burial and memorial registry intended to help people discover and preserve information about deceased loved ones and burial records in Nigeria. Records may be submitted by families or other people with an appropriate basis to provide the information, and may be reviewed before publication.
The registry is an information service. Unless a separate written agreement says otherwise, it does not operate cemeteries, manage burial sites, or guarantee that every burial location or record can be found.
3. Using search and public records
You may search and view publicly available memorial information for personal, respectful, lawful purposes. Public availability does not mean that every use of a record is appropriate.
- Do not use the service to harass, threaten, intimidate, or target living people.
- Do not misrepresent a record or present unverified information as official confirmation.
- Do not use information to facilitate fraud, identity misuse, stalking, or unlawful discrimination.
- Do not attempt to bypass access restrictions or obtain private burial details without authorisation.
4. Submitting memorial information
If you submit a memorial, you agree that:
- the information you provide is accurate to the best of your knowledge and you will correct material errors you discover;
- you have a lawful basis and any necessary authority or permission to submit the information, photographs, and documents;
- you will not submit forged, misleading, unlawfully obtained, or deliberately harmful material;
- you will respond honestly to reasonable requests for clarification or verification; and
- you will notify Ìrántí if you believe a submission is inaccurate, unauthorised, or creates a serious privacy concern.
Submitting a record does not guarantee that it will be published or remain published.
5. Verification and review
Ìrántí may ask for supporting material, which may include a death certificate and valid identification, to review a memorial submission. We may request additional information, delay publication, decline a submission, or review an existing record if something appears incomplete, disputed, or inconsistent.
6. Accuracy, corrections, and disputed records
We aim to treat memorial information with dignity, but user-submitted and historical information may be incomplete, mistaken, or disputed. We do not promise that every record is error-free or exhaustive.
If you believe a record is inaccurate, unauthorised, or harmful, contact hello@irantiregistry.ng with the record details and an explanation. We may ask for supporting information and will review the concern under the process adopted for the live service.
7. Content and intellectual property
You retain any rights you have in material you submit. You give Ìrántí permission to host, reproduce, format, review, and display that material as reasonably needed to operate the registry and according to the choices and permissions associated with the submission.
8. Review, suspension, or removal
We may review, restrict, suspend, or remove content or access where reasonably necessary to investigate a concern, protect privacy or safety, comply with law, enforce these Terms, or maintain the integrity of the registry. Where appropriate, we may contact the submitter or affected family before making a decision.
9. Service availability and limitations
We may update, suspend, or discontinue parts of the service as the project develops. We will make reasonable efforts to keep the website usable, but do not guarantee uninterrupted access, permanent availability of every record, or compatibility with every device.
The registry is not a substitute for official civil, cemetery, religious, legal, or government records. If you need formal proof of death, burial, ownership, or entitlement, contact the relevant authority or institution.
10. Responsibility and liability
To the extent permitted by applicable law, Ìrántí is not responsible for decisions you make solely on the basis of information in the registry, information supplied by third parties, or temporary service interruptions. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, or limits rights that applicable law requires us to preserve.
11. Third-party services and links
The website may link to third-party websites or use third-party hosting and service providers. We do not control every third-party service or its content. Your use of a third-party service may be subject to that provider’s terms and privacy policy.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may revise these Terms as the service changes. We will update the “Last updated” date when we publish a new version. If you continue using the service after updated Terms take effect, that use will be subject to the revised Terms where permitted by law.
